The drug is indicated in women, men and boys. In women, FSH and LH cause the monthly maturation of an egg in one of the ovaries. LH is also necessary for ovulation: the release of the egg. When the body itself does not produce enough FSH and LH, it can lead to reduced fertility. Administering FSH injections daily can lead to egg maturation. Pregnyl ensures that ovulation takes place afterwards. Pregnyl can also be administered by assisted reproductive techniques, both before and after ovulation in men.
In men, Pregnyl, alone or together with a product containing FSH, can be used if there is insufficient development of the gonads or if there are problems with sperm formation.
In boys, Pregnyl, alone or together with a product containing FSH, can be used in delayed puberty. In some cases, Pregnyl can also be given to boys in whom one or both testicles have not descended.
